The Sky is the Limit!

When one looks at Langebaan at present, Club Mykonos Resort has established itself as the leader in innovation for travel and entertainment in the West Coast. This gaming and leisure company might have started with a vision of attracting tourists to the area, but also maintains a strong link with the community while continually growing its footprint in tourism and the local economy.

Whether you’re looking for a lazy day along the poolside or action-packed adventures on both land and sea, Club Mykonos offers an endless list of attractions and activities for the whole family.

In the Sloep Wes Easter edition we talk to Jonathan Kilroe-Smith, the current group CEO, to find out more about what is happening at Club Mykonos. Jon together with an energetic Easter Bunny can also be seen on this month’s cover page.

I was taken aback by his eagerness to take on any adventure and the support he receives from all the staff around him.

Jon, first of all we want to know if you now consider yourself a fully fledged son of the West Coast?

For Sure! The West Coast is definitely one of the most undiscovered gems in the world. The natural beauty of this area coupled with amazing people, full of character, passion and a deep love for this area make for an amazing combination.

The tourism industry suffered tremendously during the Covid lockdown period and many companies did not survive, can you explain to us what has made Mykonos not only survive during those though economic times, but flourish once it was over?

Club Mykonos is blessed to be a destination •strongly supported by the domestic market. We have always been geared to provide a very different experience to South Africans and their support of our brand enabled us to recover quickly from the consequences of the pandemic.

We just now saw you compete against an Easter Bunny to get to the zipline first (Jon won), how did Club Mykonos become home to the very first Skypark in Africa?

The guest of today has evolved and people are now looking for experiences and things to do. We are on a mission to provide this to tourists visiting the West Coast so that they can also experience everything it has to offer. We are so invested in local support that we decided to take the opportunity and invest when others were tightening their belts. We introduced a charter boat, built a Skypark and brought in electric scooters over the lockdown period, followed swiftly by a massive upgrade of our spa and gym, complemented by a new restaurant named Sorriso.

What can locals and tourists look forward to over the next few months at Club Mykonos?

We’re going to be growing our adventure company and will be introducing kayaks, SUPs, bicycles, guided hikes, guided excursions and amazing experiences. Watch this space!

Club Mykonos is proudly West Coast and has come a long way since January 1988 when the building of the first 12 units of Block 1 was undertaken.
