We at Port Owen Charters offer the very different and enjoyable experience of
being aboard our 40 foot sailing catamaran, named Aragon, which is fully equipped for
worldwide cruising and registered to host a maximum of 12 passengers.
Aragon is fully equipped with all safety equipment as required by law as well as 2
toilets and all plates, glasses, stove, oven and braai and a good sound system.
We provide everything to make your trip an unforgettable experience and you need
only to supply what you eat or drink. Our prices are per trip and not per person,
regardless if you are just one passenger or our maximum of 12 passengers, the price
remains the same for the trip.
Visit our website www.portowencharters.co.za for all pricing details and also look at Facebook
“Port Owen Sailing Charters” for some good video material which shows just what we
are all about.
We sail in St. Helena Bay which is on the West Coast about 140 kms drive from Cape
Town and is unique in the sense that there is mostly almost no swell at all as this area
is protected from the large ocean swells that sweep up from the Southern ocean
and run up the South African coastline.
Our shortest trip is the two and a half hour sundowner trip where we leave at four
o’clock in the afternoon from Port Owen Marina and return at half past six, a trip
where we just sail towards the setting sun and back.
Another very popular trip is the “All day” option. Here we depart at eleven o’clock in
the morning from Port Owen Marina and sail across to Stompneus Bay, where we
drop anchor behind some rocks and close to a sandy beach, get a braai or barbecue
going whilst you relax, party or swim. We generally return at five o’clock in the
afternoon, and once back in the Port Owen Marine, the party may continue with no
rush to leave the boat.
Our most popular trip however is the Sandy Point lunch cruise.
Here we usually depart at elven o’clock in the morning from Port Owen Marina and
sail across the bay to Sandy Point fishing harbour where guests have a choice off a
“sit down meal” at an excellent sea food restaurant, or otherwise a simple “fish &
chips” parcel that we collect from the local Take Away for consumption abroad whilst
we stay made fast to the jetty there. Our return time is generally 3 o’clock
Please note that we are not licenced to sell alcohol but you are most welcome (and
expected) to bring your own and also that the costs of Take Away or Restaurant meals
are not included in our listed pricing and will be for your own account.
We do a weather forecast 4 days in advance of your booking date and advise
accordingly. A very different and enjoyable experience
guaranteed by Skipper Alan and his fellow crew member Blackie.
We go the extra nautical mile!
