When Sloep Wes decided to add Yzerfontein to our route we were amazed by the wonderful variety of local businesses that this West Coast Gem had to offer.
Yzerfontein is about an hour’s drive from the metropole of Cape Town. This exceptional “dorpie” with its remarkable views, wild fynbos and wildflowers is defiantly a must see. Raised walkways, walking paths and amazing beaches allow visitors to explore almost every inch of the splendid coastline. We were taken in by the charm of this town and its amazing people. Our first stop was the Paxton Centre and we popped in at Mora Mora where the owner, Issabela helped us find the perfect going away gift for my mom who was on her way back to Joburg. At Mora Mora you can learn the art of pottery paint and buy some beautiful yarn at Duinsalie. Visit Tasty Yzer for some dinner ideas, Meraai Gebak for Koeksisters and Melktert, Our Shop to find a gift for that someone special and then Atlantic Solar to sort out your loadshedding worries.
We met with Lusie, her Pewter art is not to be missed so book a class and learn how to create your own masterpiece. Lusie’s Pewter Art and Ceative Pottery are both part of the Yzerfontein Art Route. Just follow the yellow boards in town to discover Yzer’s local art scene.
Property experts from Chas Everitt and Harcourts made it clear that Yzerfontein is not only a sound investment in a safe community, but that Yzerfontein offers potential home owners a variety of housing options.
After a day out we were feeling a bit peckish and were spoiled for choice. Do some wine testing at Blakes Family Wines and build your own platter and do not forget that Friday nights are Gourmet Pizza at StrandKombuis. Try some fresh produce from Fynbos like giant garlic, pickled chillies and fresh granadillas.
Make Yzerfontein part of your next road trip and don’t miss out on some of the unique shops and attractions that Yzer has to offer.
