The Heartbeat of Velddrif and Dwarskersbos

  • by

The Sloep Wes road trip took us to Velddrif and Dwarskersbos this month and we were met with a big problem as to how to combine social awareness for breast cancer and the unique and amazing personalities of this part of the West Coast.

In the end, we ended up with a memorable experience that we would love to share with all our readers. This part of the West Coast is often overlooked but we encourage all to go visit these amazing places and see that, as with the rest of the West Coast, it is the people that make even a cold winter’s day warm and inviting.

Question 1 – Velddrif and Dwarskersbos are as unique as the amazing people that stay there, why did they decide to make this part of the West Coast not just their home but also their place of business?

Question 2 – Diverse, strong, and truly empowered this group of women has taken a risk in unsure times and made a success, what is their advice for other women and what is the next step for them in their business?

Bonus Round – Where is your favourite spot in the area to visit and why …..

Belinda from Timeless Treasures with a Modern Twist

1: I fell in love with Dwarskersbos, the long open beaches, the peace and tranquility made me feel alive again. Mostly drawn by my love for the dolphins, paddling out on my SUP to play with them.

2: Never be afraid to make a change. Find out what you love and do it well! Believe in yourself and always look forward. Make a difference, give of yourself and share your joy!

Charlotte from Knor Varkie

Gené from Bokmakierie Nursery

1: What makes Velddrif so special to me is the generosity if the people that live here as well as the beauty that surrounds us in the form of the ocean, farmlands, pristine beaches and the Berg River with all its abundant bird life.

2: I followed my heart to make my dreams come true and it was the most liberating experience because success was not guaranteed. Sometimes you just need to trust that your dreams are achievable and that you do have what it takes. Our next step is just like the previous step… quality plants, great service and good prices.

3: I love the nursery and farm and it is my favourite place to be.

We asked all our front page girls to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness and could not be more pleased with the outcome. These women know the meaning of strength and determination and what it takes to succeed. They are all heroes and beacons of hope in these picturesque towns.
